Rock · $1/$2 live

The rock who calls your preflop raise from the big blind and then donk bets the flop has top pair or better. This is one of the most reliable tells at $1/$2.

Pool read #68 · Donk bet reads · Player type exploitation

Why they do it

Rocks in the big blind don't get creative. They defend with hands they like and they donk bet when they connect. There's no deception in it - they just hit the board and they want to find out where they are. The answer is: they're ahead of most of your range.

The adjustment

Raise only with strong hands. Call with the top of your range and draws that have real equity. Fold everything else. Don't try to push them off a hand they decided to donk bet with.

What it's worth

Raising a rock's flop donk bet as a bluff and folding to the re-raise costs you two bets for no reason. Give them credit and keep the pot small until you have the goods.
