Recreational · The Impatient One · $1/$2 live
The rec who's been folding for an hour and is visibly frustrated is about to play the next halfway-decent hand he sees regardless of position or situation. His next open is wider than his normal range.
Why they do it
Impatient players at $1/$2 can't handle long stretches of folding. After an hour of nothing they pick up T9 suited in early position and treat it like aces. They're not adjusting to position or stack depth - they're just relieved to finally have something to play.
The adjustment
Give his sudden raise less credit than you normally would. He might have something, but his range is wider than the situation calls for. If you have a real hand, play back.
What it's worth
Correctly identifying an impatient player's first raise after a long stretch of folding and playing back with a real hand is a profitable spot that most players give too much credit to.
