Recreational · The Limper Who Raised · $1/$2 live

The rec who has been limping all night and suddenly raises preflop has a hand he's genuinely excited about. This is not a steal. He found something he couldn't help himself with.

Pool read #63 · Preflop reads · Pattern recognition

Why they do it

Recs who limp constantly and then raise are screaming. They don't raise as a play - they raise because they finally picked up a hand that felt too good to just limp. It's aces, kings, or at worst queens. They couldn't contain it.

The adjustment

Fold everything except premiums. If you have a big pair and you're not sure, just call and play a small pot. Don't build a massive pot out of position against a rec who finally woke up.

What it's worth

3-betting a limp-happy rec's first raise of the night and running into aces is completely avoidable. Just give them credit and move on.
