Why they do it
Position on the maniac gives you control over every pot he's involved in. You can isolate him, 3-bet him, and call him down in position all session. From any other seat you're reacting to him. From his left you're directing traffic.
The adjustment
When the seat opens up to the maniac's left, ask the floor immediately. Don't deliberate. That seat is worth more than any card you'll be dealt tonight.
What it's worth
Playing the whole session in position on the maniac vs. out of position on him is the difference between a winning session and a break-even one. Seat selection is underrated and free.
