Maniac · $2/$5 live
The $2/$5 maniac 3-betting light preflop has a wide range - suited connectors, suited aces, Broadway hands - but he's not capped. He has premiums in there too. Don't overcorrect and assume he's always bluffing.
Why they do it
$2/$5 maniacs have seen enough poker to know 3-betting light is theoretically correct. They just apply it too often. The mistake is assuming his range is all bluffs. It's wide, not capped. That's a different problem.
The adjustment
4-bet or fold. Calling in position with hands that play well postflop is fine. Don't call out of position trying to outplay him - that's exactly where he wants you.
What it's worth
Calling 3-bets out of position with KJo or QTo against a maniac is a consistent money-loser. Fold or 4-bet. Stay out of the middle.
