Rock · $2/$5 live
The $2/$5 rock who bets the river after checking the flop and turn has exactly what the board says he has. He's not turning a bluff. He just made his hand.
Why they do it
$2/$5 rocks who check twice and then bet the river are not running a delayed bluff. They hit their draw, filled their set, made two pair on the river - whatever it is, they got there. The double check followed by a river bet is one of the most reliable tells in live poker at this level.
The adjustment
Fold everything except the nuts. Don't talk yourself into a hero call because the pot is big. He has it. He always has it in this spot.
What it's worth
Hero calling a $2/$5 rock's check-check-bet river line with two pair costs you a stack. One correct fold here per session saves you real money and a lot of frustration.
