Recreational · The Gambler · $1/$2 live

The gambler type - usually someone who plays other casino games too - treats $1/$2 poker like a slot machine. They want to see flops, they want action, and they will stack off with any two pair because "I had two pair, what was I supposed to do?"

Why they do it

Casino gamblers who wander into the poker room are playing for the rush, not the edge. They don't have a folding range postflop once they connect. Two pair, trips, even top pair with a good kicker is a stack-off hand for them.

The adjustment

Get it in with your strong hands and don't slowplay. They're not folding. You don't need to build a pot - they'll do it for you. Just make sure you have the goods.

What it's worth

Slowplaying a set against a gambler type and losing value because the pot stayed small is a common regret spot. Playing fast and getting stacks in with the best hand is worth $100-300 per occurrence depending on stacks.
